All Days Are Nights: Songs For Lulu [15 Apr 2010|12:22am]

lumia_glitters
Hi guys,
I had the honour of listening to the new Rufus Wainwright album last week, so I reviewed it. I just started a music blog, it can be found here: http://mudpiemusic.tumblr.com/

I'll probably do an interview with Rufus Wainwright in 2 weeks, that will also be posted in the blog in May. New pictures will follow as well.

I hope it will give you some insight, early on. Check out the blog, it will be interesting. I'll soon feature exclusive interviews with Tori Amos, Jamie Cullum and Prodigy; I did those interviews in 2009 and they've only been released in an Austrian magazine so far.

Cheers,
Sandra :)

MARTHA'S HAVING A BABY! [20 Sep 2009|08:45pm]

[ mood | excited ]

I found out from this article I found on the main Rufus message board
Martha Wainwright, 33 is a Canadian singer-songwriter. She lives in Brooklyn, with her husband, Brad.

"I get up around 8am. Im lucky to have my husband Brad to make me a cup of coffee and bring it into my bed, which is something Ive had done for me since I was a kid. My mother started to do it when i was 13. She'd wake me and my brother Rufus us with a cup of coffee. she wanted us to get up to go to school and I liked to sleep.

Brad plays bass. He plays with me and he produced many of my albums. Unfortunately we live in a one-room aparment in Brookyn. This means you're a victim to the other person's habits and schedule but we're in the market for a house. I've got it into my head I want to live in a big rambling house, so that means we have to move to the ghetto. But that's fine with me. It's space.

We live in a Hasidic Jewish neighbourhood, which is quiet in the sense that they don't look at you and you don;t look at them. It doesn't sound very neighbourly but it's kind of great not to have to know your neighbours. My mother is catholic and my father is Episcopalian. Strangely enough my mother never had me baptised but then she subjected me to catechism. I was told I was going to hell every day but i'm over it. I haven't gone to hell yet. I grew up in Quebec which is traditional. It's a Catholic part of America. It's lovely.

I will have more breakfast later on, stuff like oatmeal, because you'll notice when you see me in Sligo that I'll be a bit bigger. This is because I'm going to have a baby, so everything has changed. I am due in January . It's my first child. I'm not scared, yet, but I may be closer to the due date. I am going to try and do it naturally, with a midwife in a birthing centre, which is near a hospital. read more hereCollapse )

Long shot, but... [11 Jun 2009|10:13pm]

aeolian_harp
Does anyone here know anything about the concert on March 17, 2010 in Vancouver?

It was originally credited as Martha Wainwright and Jorane. But the ticket-selling Web site now only lists Martha. It's also part of the Vancouver Cultural Olympics and I want to know if there's any chance the concert is going to be her doing Piaf covers instead of her original music. I can't find any info on this and tickets go on sale tomorrow. I live far from Vancouver and I don't want to go all that way for a concert if it's not what I expect it to be. I find it weird that I can't find that much information on it.

Dance
Morphoses/The Wheeldon Company
with musical guest Martha Wainwright
Friday, August 14, 2009
Saturday, August 15, 2009
From 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM

Central Park SummerStage

A very special evening of dance and music that will feature a world premiere by choreographer Christopher Wheeldon, set to new music by Martha Wainwright, both commissioned by City Parks Foundation.

Two exceptional evenings of dance are on hand as the critically acclaimed ballet company Morphoses/The Wheeldon Company premieres a new work commissioned by City Parks Foundation. Performing alongside the dancers will be popular singer/songwriter Martha Wainwright, who has written an original, fifteen minute score for these two special performances at Central Park SummerStage.

Internationally acclaimed choreographer Christopher Wheeldon is Artistic Director and Co-Founder of Morphoses/The Wheeldon Company. A former dancer with The Royal Ballet and soloist with New York City Ballet (where he served as Resident Choreographer from 2001 to 2008), Wheeldon founded Morphoses in 2007 with the goal of introducing a new spirit of innovation to classical ballet by fostering collaboration among choreographers, dancers, visual artists, designers, composers, and others who can bring new life and perspective to the dance. The company has since gone on to receive rave reviews, making Christopher Wheeldon one of the most in-demand choreographers working in dance today.

Since Martha Wainwright’s eponymous debut, the sharp-witted songbird has been keeping busy through international touring, earning numerous accolades and awards. She has made music with Pete Townshend, Damon Albarn’s Africa Express, Antony Hegarty, and Snow Patrol, with whom she scored a Top 20 hit. She’s covered Leonard Cohen songs for the film I’m Your Man, performed Bertold Brecht and Kurt Weill’s “Seven Deadly Sins” with the Royal Ballet Company, and sang Pink Floyd’s “See Emily Play,” with her mother at a Syd Barrett tribute.

Martha does Chelsea Hotel [05 May 2009|06:30pm]

Martha performed Chelsea Hotel .2 3 years ago at an LA film festival opening of Leonard Cohen : I'm your man. The visual quality is bad, but the audio is pretty good. Doesn't she sound magnificent? I can't decide whether I like hers or Rufus' the best!

Is anyone else going to Martha's show at the Getty in L.A. this Saturday? I got tickets a month ago, but my friend flaked on me at the last minute so I'll probably just go alone. Meanwhile, I have an extra free ticket that I don't know what to do with. Any takers?

I don't know if this is kosher in this group, but I've been kind of dying to hear her cover of Pretty Good Day. Would anybody who has it be willing to share (trade?) it with me?

Apologies if this is frowned upon.

Martha married? [27 Sep 2007|10:43pm]

agenda
Wow, I feel out of the loop. I was looking at Martha's Wikipedia page today and it says she got married this month. I half-expected it to be vandalism, but with a bit of searching, it appears to be true (just not widely reported).

Linda Thompson, Teddy Thompson's mother, verifies a (then-upcoming) wedding in this interview.

Congratulations, Martha and Brad!

Although I'm not super keen on her other stuff; I love her voice in her song with Snow Patrol. And I think (off the back of the music video for that) that she is dead sexy SO: I made some icons, from the video for 'set fire to the third bar,' of Ms Martha! (That seems like a really complicated way of saying, "me not keen on Martha's music, but keen on Martha!"

more under cut...Collapse )

What's all thinking about Set The Fire To The Third Bar?
It definitely must be one of Snow Patrol's best songs EVER.
She really is the ultimate harmoniser, ain't she?

I read today that Martha has cancelled festival appearances due to "personal circumstances." She was to appear in two festivals this upcoming weekend. Does anyone have any news on this? Is she doing all right?

Hello! I'm new to the community :)

I first heard Martha at the beginning of this month when I ended up watching her at Wychwood festival. She has the most amazing voice! She's so funny too, she was just joking at speaking to the audience the whole time. then she was signing CDs afterwards but I didn't get a chance to meet her ;_;.

Does anyone else think she sounds even better live than on record?
